I know that taking the first step and reaching out to a therapist can be overwhelming and anxiety provoking.  I hope to help address your questions, fears and concerns prior to your first appointment and to do that I offer all new clients a free 15-minute phone consultation.  During that time, I'll address your questions and we'll determine if we're a good fit to work with each other.  My #1 priority is making sure that you feel comfortable with me as your therapist.  If it seems like at the end of your free 15-minute consultation that we aren't the right fit, I'll offer referral options to help link you with a therapist that might better accommodate your needs.   

Does talk therapy really make a difference?

Absolutely!  Part of the therapeutic process relies on your ability to take risks, build trust and formulate a meaningful professional relationship with your counselor.  It's from this foundation that we'll talk and you'll learn how talking with a trained counselor can help you shift your thinking and transform your life.  This is the exciting part of my job, walking with you on the journey of change.   


What will our first session be like?

If you've gotten this far, you may be seriously considering scheduling an appointment.  Our first session will include orienting you to the counseling process.  In this session, we'll explore the reason you decided to come to counseling and any relevant history.  We'll explore the things you've done prior to meeting with me to try to address the issues that brought you in to meet with me.  Toward the end of the session, we'll formulate tentative goals.  At the end of this session, we'll make sure we're the right fit for each other.  If we're not, we'll talk about referrals to make sure you find the right place to do your therapeutic work.   


How often will I need to come to counseling?

I find that most clients benefit most from therapy when they make the commitment to attend weekly sessions.  Regular attendance at weekly appointments help build momentum to begin to build more stability and resilience and freedom from your concerns.  Once this shift occurs, we can discuss whether it would be beneficial to space out your appointments and meet less frequently.  This allows you to build confidence and positivity about your ability to sustain change and find more peace.  As you become more comfortable in your ability to navigate the complexities of life with your new tools we can discuss how to transition you to a maintenance schedule provided that no new issues arise during our work.   


I tried therapy before but didn't have a good experience.  How can you help?

I'm sorry to hear about your past experience.  Therapy is a very personal process and finding the right therapist to take that journey with is important.  It sounds like maybe the past therapist you worked with wasn't a good fit for your personal needs and style.  I know that reaching out for help can be discouraging when you aren't well matched with your therapist.  This is why we'll talk about your past experience with counseling to make sure I understand what we can do differently to avoid those past mistakes. 


If I close out my services because I've resolved my initial issue can I ever return ?

Yes, please know that my goal is to help you heal your life and find joy at every turn.  When something else feels askew in your life, please call me so we can re-establish our working relationship.   


Do you work with clients of all ages?

I specialize in working with adults in individual and couples counseling.
